Rick the Gambler

Last night, the bro and I ended up going to the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino for the evening. We had just planned on looking around and grabbing some dinner. Neither of us are much in the way of gamblers. Whenever we go there, we may spend $10-20 on the electronic slot machines, but that's it.

We arrived there around 6pm, to find the place practically deserted. This is not really a surprise. Places like that usually don't start 'jumping' until late at night. So we arrived, parked in the new, massive parking garage, and walked in. After a little looking around, we stopped at the 'Blue Plate' restaraunt inside the hotel for dinner. The meal was fairly expensive (about $30/person), but neither of us was very impressed with the meal there. I won't be going there again. After that, we left the restaraunt and headed over to the casino to do some light gambling. That's when things got interesting.

We walked around and found the cheapo slot machines (25 cents per play). My brother sat down first and put $20 in. He played for a few minutes, and was down to $15 so he gave up and left the machine. I sat down next. I fished through my wallet and all I could find was a $10 so I put that in. I told myself I would do the same as my brother - play until I lost $5 then stop. Yeah, yeah I know. We are just 'dabblers'. We aren't serious gamblers. Anyway, I started playing, losing one quarter after another. I was down to the last play before I hit my $5 quitting time. On the last play I hit triple sevens on the machine and won 200 points (which works out to be $50!) I had suddenly gone, in one play from $5 to $50. So I kept playing. A few more winning hands and I got as high as $92. My brother, who was really jealous kept telling me to stop at the $92. I played on, deciding I would stop when it got back down to $50... Hey, that's still a $40 profit! I played and played, but after hitting $69, I decided to quit. When all was said and done, my $10 turned into $69 in the course of several minutes! That's the first time I've ever won anything in a casino. Of course, what made my brother even more jealous was that I had won this on the same machine he had just used, only a couple minutes later! Plus, I did it with only $10 and he used $20. So when all was said and done, I walked out of the place almost $60 richer than when I went in! A good night!

We also stayed after that for a while and watched the Halloween costume contest. There were some interesting costumes and a few that were just plain 'wrong'! :) Once the sun went down, it also got very cool outside. It was a good evening.
