Everyone says that they are trying to get in shape in order to improve their health. This is not true, or at least it's not the whole story. Let's admit it to ourselves. We all set out to get in shape for one reason - to look good, usually to the opposite sex. I admit it. That's the main reason I started to get in shape. I didn't like the way I looked, so I set out to fix it. As a result of getting in shape, I also received the health benefits that go along with it, so that was a nice bonus.
In our society it's often viewed as a bad thing that people do things purely for vanity sake. Normally I agree with them, but in this case I don't. There is nothing wrong with wanting to look good, as long as it's done naturally. If you start going to extremes by doing such things as cosmetic surgery, then I think you are going too far. Getting in shape should be a matter of getting into the best shape humanly possible. In my opinion, things like cosmetic surgery and to a certain degree weight loss surgery are 'cheating'. The only real way to get in shape is to work at it. By putting in the time and effort to get in shape, it installs in you the habits to maintain that appearance. It then becomes a lifelong change. By taking shortcuts, you don't develop the proper habits to maintain it. This is why many people regain the weight back after going on these crash diets to lose weight. They haven't developed the habits and the mindset to maintain themselves at their new lower weight. Until you do this, you are doomed to failure.
