Here's a quick tip for if you want to have an iPhone application that targets both an earlier version of the iPhone OS and the new iPhone OS 3.0. Juse use the __IPHONE_3_0 precompiler define to compile specific code for iPhone 3.0. i.e.

#ifdef __IPHONE_3_0
// iPhone 3.0 specific stuff
#else
// iPhone 2.2 specific stuff
#endif

It's up!

My first iPhone app - LOL Maker, is up for sale as of this morning on the Apple App Store! Let's see what happens....

A few minutes ago, I submitted my first application for sale in the iPhone App Store. I've been working on this app off and on for the last couple months. Now to wait for Apple to accept/reject it and put it up for sale. Let's see how this thing does.

Oh, what is the app that I submitted? It's called LOL Maker. It's used to make lolcats and failblog style pictures... (Yes, the web page is ugly. I plan on improving that...)

Cocoa category on Reddit: Reddit is another 'Digg-style' web site where readers submit and vote up/down articles on the web. This particular part of the site is devoted to articles about Cocoa.

Many iPhone applications present a brief 'splash screen' when starting up. Here's how to make one.

Create a PNG image named 'Default.png'. It must be exactly that filename, case sensitive. Put this in your Resources folder of the project. The application will display this image briefly when the application first loads.

Technically this image isn't supposed to be used as a splash screen. It is supposed to be a image which resembles the running UI of your application. It's purpose is to make the application show something while it is starting up. By doing this, it doesn't look like the application has frozen while starting up. Despite this, most people just use this feature as a splash screen.
