In short - Girl Power!
Yeah, yeah, I know. Everyone said this movie was terrible and I knew that going in. Seeing as how this movie had several things going for it that appealed to me, I wanted to give it a fair chance. These two things that appealed to me are:
- A beautiful woman in skimpy, skin-tight leather!
- A comic book inspired story.
Unfortunately, this movie falls apart bad and the sight of Halle Barry in skin-tight leather isn't enought to save it. This movie has 'girl power' written all over it. I don't really see how this movie could have any appeal to men. It's Catwoman vs. The Evil Cosmetics Company... The entire plot centers around her trying to stop a cosmetics company that has invented this face cream that is not only very addictive, but it causes your face to fall apart if you stop using it. That's it. On top of that we have the story of mousy, shy, insecure Patience Prince going from shy to sexy and dominating... The outfit she wears borders on an S&M outfit, what with the leather and the whip... As for the fact that it is a comic book inspired story - the only relation to the comic book (the Catwoman character from the Batman comics) is the name 'Catwoman'. Nothing else is even remotely related to the comic book. Plus you have the fact that, at least to me, her love interest looked so much like one of the main bad guys, half the time I couldn't tell if it was the bad guy or the good guy I was looking at. The special effects were horrible too. All of her 'cat moves' had a blatant CGI feel to them, and the exterior shots of the city looked horribly fake.
This movie isn't even worth the $4 it would cost to rent. Ugh.
